Frequently Asked Questions
The Nespresso Vertuo and Nespresso Original machines use different technologies. The Original line is designed for espresso lovers and uses a 19-bar high-pressure technology for ideal extraction of quality espresso, giving you an unforgettable taste. The Vertuo line is designed to provide incomparable coffee experiences in all sizes, providing the same quality in an espresso as a double espresso, Gran Lungo, or bigger. Vertuo uses the latest technology to adapt the brewing parameters to the specific coffee blend and size, thus extracting the full aromas from each coffee. Additionally, Vertuo provides an even more generous and velvety crema, which is a sign of ultimate coffee quality, enhancing the tasting pleasure. The crema protects coffee aromas, sealing them in the cup so you can benefit from the full aromatic profile.
What do the two lines have in common? They seek to obtain the best quality of coffee in every cup. All Vertuo and Original coffees are made from gourmet quality beans and are roasted in Switzerland.
No, the removable spare parts are not dishwasher-safe. They can be washed by hand with mild soap and water.
We deliberately chose aluminium as the packaging for our coffee varieties because this material best protects the ground and roasted coffee beans from light, air, and moisture, in order to guarantee you freshness from farm to cup for a whole year.
Aluminium can also be infinitely recycled. In addition, we recycle the coffee waste, which is used as biogas to provide electricity to Swiss homes. Nespresso also repurposes aluminium from our capsules and coffee waste to manufacture second-life items such as shoes, notebooks, pens, pencils, and other items.
Thanks to various programmes developed in all cantons with local and national partners, Nespresso has achieved a 100% recycling capacity for aluminium capsules in Switzerland to recover the full material value after use. You can find more information about our recycling programme here.
Choosing a Nespresso coffee capsule is better for the environment than coffee from a bean-to-cup machine. The Italian moka maker has a similar impact to that of a Nespresso capsule coffee machine. This is clearly demonstrated in an environmental impact study carried out by Quantis in 2019 in accordance with ISO 14040/14044 and reviewed by three independent experts.
In summary, the environmental impact study carried out by Quantis shows that a cup of coffee made using an automatic bean-to-cup coffee machine has an impact 39% higher than a Nespresso cup.
This is explained by the fact that bean-to-cup coffee machines use, on average, 50% more ground coffee per cup.
This study shows that using a precise amount of coffee, water, and energy, as the Nespresso system does, is a real benefit when it comes to responsible coffee consumption. The Nespresso system reduces resource wastage and optimises the carbon footprint of a cup of coffee.
